Evidence grade A
Research stage: Approved active ingredient: FDA-approved in specific Novo Nordisk products (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy); this PEPTYVA vial is research material, not an approved or registered medicine.
Product description
Semaglutide 10 mg research peptide by PEPTYVA, supplied in a sealed vial for laboratory research use only. Semaglutide is the GLP-1 analog in specific FDA-approved branded medicines; that approval does not extend to this research vial.

What is semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a synthetic analog of human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This product is a 10 mg vial of semaglutide made by PEPTYVA in Mexico and sold for laboratory research use only. It is not a medicine and is not intended for human or veterinary use.
The molecule shares 94% sequence homology with human GLP-1. According to the FDA label for Ozempic, it is modified at position 8 for stability against enzymatic breakdown, and a lysine side chain is linked to a C18 fatty diacid through a hydrophilic spacer. PubChem attributes its long half-life of about 168 hours to albumin binding.
How is semaglutide studied in research?
Semaglutide is studied as a selective GLP-1 receptor agonist. It binds and activates the GLP-1 receptor, the target of the native hormone, which makes it a reference compound for incretin signaling and for long-acting peptide design.
- Target: GLP-1 receptor (selective agonist)
- Structure: Aib at position 8 (GLP-1 numbering), acylated lysine carrying a C18 fatty diacid
- Typical research topics: incretin receptor pharmacology, glucose regulation, energy balance models
- Reference use: comparator for dual and triple receptor agonists such as tirzepatide and retatrutide
What does the current evidence show?
Controlled human evidence for semaglutide is extensive, but it belongs to specific branded medicines. In the STEP 1 trial (New England Journal of Medicine, 2021), 1,961 adults with overweight or obesity and without diabetes were randomized to semaglutide or placebo for 68 weeks, with lifestyle intervention in both groups. The trial met both coprimary body weight endpoints. Nausea and diarrhea were the most common adverse events.
These data describe approved branded products used under regulated conditions. They do not describe this research vial, whose identity and purity are documented per lot for laboratory work.
How does semaglutide differ from tirzepatide?
Semaglutide acts on one receptor, the GLP-1 receptor. Tirzepatide is built on the GIP sequence and activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, according to its FDA label. Retatrutide, which is still investigational, adds glucagon receptor activity. All three carry fatty diacid side chains, so they are often compared in receptor pharmacology work.
How is each semaglutide vial documented?
Every vial carries a PEPTYVA lot number and expiry date that link it to a Certificate of Analysis. A COA typically reports identity, usually by mass spectrometry against the expected molecular weight of 4113.58 g/mol, purity by HPLC, appearance and test dates. Matching the lot number on the vial to the COA before laboratory work is the simplest traceability check.
What is the regulatory status of semaglutide?
Approval belongs to specific branded products, not to the molecule in general. In the United States, the FDA has approved Ozempic and Rybelsus for adults with type 2 diabetes and Wegovy for chronic weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction in defined adults. In Mexico, a 2023 COFEPRIS notice confirms that Ozempic holds a sanitary registration for adults with type 2 diabetes and requires a medical prescription. None of these approvals extends to this PEPTYVA research vial.
Documentation
Each vial carries a PEPTYVA lot number and expiry date. The Certificate of Analysis (COA) for that lot can be requested before or after ordering; a COA typically lists identity, purity, appearance, lot number and test dates. See Quality & Documentation for how to read each section.
Storage and handling
Keep the unopened vial sealed in its original packaging, protected from light and heat, at the storage temperature printed on the PEPTYVA label. Check the strength, lot number and expiry date on arrival, and do not use material past the expiry date shown on the label.

GLP-1 analog of interest in glycemic control, satiety and weight management.
Regulatory status
- United States
- Semaglutide is the active ingredient in FDA-approved Novo Nordisk products. Ozempic: glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, reduction of major adverse cardiovascular event risk in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, and reduction of the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (label revised 05/2026). Rybelsus tablets: glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk (label revised 10/2025). Wegovy (pen and tablets): reduction of excess body weight and long-term maintenance in defined adults (the pen also in adolescents aged 12 and older with obesity), reduction of major adverse cardiovascular event risk in adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight, and, for the pen only, noncirrhotic MASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis under accelerated approval (label revised 06/2026). These approvals apply only to the branded products. This PEPTYVA vial is not FDA-approved and is not for human use.
- Mexico (COFEPRIS)
- A COFEPRIS risk notice (August 2023) states that Ozempic, whose sanitary registration is held by Novo Nordisk México, is authorized for adults with type 2 diabetes and is a fraction IV medicine that requires a medical prescription under article 226 of the Ley General de Salud. This PEPTYVA vial is research material, is not a registered medicine in Mexico and is not for human use.
