What is NAD+?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found widely in nature. Its structure is ribosylnicotinamide 5'-diphosphate coupled to adenosine 5'-phosphate by a pyrophosphate linkage. This PEPTYVA product is a 500 mg vial of NAD+ for laboratory research use only. NAD+ is not a peptide, and this vial is not a medicine or a supplement.
How is NAD+ studied in research?
NAD+ is studied as a redox coenzyme and enzyme substrate. It serves as an electron carrier in many enzymatic reactions, alternating between its oxidized form (NAD+) and reduced form (NADH), and it acts as a donor of ADP-ribose groups. NAD+-dependent enzymes take part in DNA repair, cellular metabolism and immune function.
- Redox chemistry: NAD+ and NADH interconversion in metabolic pathways
- Enzyme research: NAD+-consuming and NAD+-dependent enzymes
- Metabolite tracking: breakdown products such as nicotinamide, methylnicotinamide and ADP-ribose
What does the current evidence show?
Human evidence for directly administered NAD+ is limited to small studies. A pilot study (Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2019) measured plasma and urine NAD+ metabolites during and after an intravenous infusion. Plasma NAD+ and its metabolites did not change until after 2 hours, which the authors read as rapid and complete removal of NAD+ from plasma during that period.
A retrospective analysis of records from a commercial setting (Frontiers in Aging, 2026) compared intravenous NAD+ with intravenous nicotinamide riboside. NAD+ infusions were associated with moderate to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and chest pressure, which resolved once infusions ended. Both studies were small and short, and neither establishes effects in people.
What has the FDA said about NAD+?
The FDA has raised quality concerns about NAD+ used in compounding. In October 2024 it reminded compounders that food-grade NAD+ is not suitable for compounding sterile drugs without appropriate processing, after reports of severe chills, shaking, vomiting and fatigue consistent with excessive endotoxin levels. The FDA's 503A list, updated May 2026, places nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide in Category 1, meaning it is still under evaluation.
These notes concern compounded human drugs. They are also a reminder of why grade, lot identity and documentation matter for research material.
How is each NAD+ vial documented?
Each vial carries a PEPTYVA lot number and expiry date that link it to a Certificate of Analysis. A COA typically lists identity, purity, appearance and test dates. Given the FDA's concerns about ingredient grade and endotoxins, ask us which quality tests the COA for your lot includes before laboratory work begins.
How does NAD+ differ from the peptides in this collection?
NAD+ is a small dinucleotide with a molecular weight of 663.4 g/mol, while products such as SS-31 are peptides. It sits in Longevity & cell metabolism because of its role in cellular energy metabolism, not because of any established effect in people.
Documentation
Each vial carries a PEPTYVA lot number and expiry date. The Certificate of Analysis for that lot can be requested through our contact page and typically lists identity, purity, appearance and test dates. Ask us which quality tests the lot COA includes. See Quality & Documentation for how to read a COA.
Storage and handling
Keep the unopened vial sealed in its original packaging, protected from light and heat, at the storage temperature printed on the PEPTYVA label. Check the lot number and expiry date on arrival, and do not use material past the expiry date shown on the label.

Regulatory status
- United States
- NAD+ is not an FDA-approved drug product, and no NAD+ product is listed in Drugs@FDA. The FDA's list of bulk drug substances nominated for 503A compounding (updated May 14, 2026) places nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide in Category 1, under evaluation. In October 2024 the FDA reminded compounders that food-grade NAD+ is not suitable for sterile compounding without appropriate processing.
